Trick-or-Tea

After a couple of years of trying to score a reservation, we finally were able to get into the Trick-or-Tea at Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel. If you heard this week’s episode of the pod, you know that we REALLY loved it. Here are some pictures of everything we experienced.

We love a good Afternoon Tea. Securing a coveted reservation to Trick-or-Tea is not an easy task. We decided that it was a reason to celebrate and didn’t miss the opportunity to get dressed up. I haven’t been Disneybounding as much lately. But after Harvey’s released their new line of Nightmare Before Christmas bags, I was inspired. It is hard for me to express how much I love the purse that they created to honor The Mayor of Halloweentown. It is absolute perfection and a true conversation piece. It was easy to assemble an outfit around it. Ella built her look around a shirt that she picked up at Sidecca. She paired it with a straight black skirt and some high Ouija socks. Very witchy.

Ella ordered the Classic Tea ($52) and I ordered the Premium Tea ($65). We asked for a vegetarian meal and they were able to accommodate Ella’s nut allergies. I think that the Premium Tea was a better value because it also included a salad, sparkling wine and truffles to take home. AP discounts were applied. Everything was delicious!

Everything was Halloween or villain themed. Our server also described everything as he brought it to the table. The chefs were very creative and we enjoyed the presentation.

The food arrived in multi-tiers. The scones were on top, followed by the sandwiches and then the desserts at the bottom. It was a feast for the eyes. The scones were accompanied by Devonshire cream, lemon curd and raspberry preserves. They were chocolate chip and maple pecan (my favorite).

The avocado and edamame sandwich, inspired by Maleficent was really good. The black beet deviled egg, inspired by Ursula was my favorite. It had lots of layered flavors that are a bit unexpected with traditional deviled eggs. It seemed like something that would fit well in a sushi restaurant. It tasted like the sea, but in the best way possible. The Scar themed sandwich, is normally served with Serano ham and hummus but they were able to do a vegetarian version. It looked like Pride Rock, with a trail of sesame seeds that resembled a scar. Bravo!

Ella requested that her sandwiches all be cucumber and butter. They were in the shape of ghosts. She really enjoyed how crisp and fresh they were.

This was the absolute highlight of the meal. The pastry chefs really did a wonderful job of getting into the theme. Everything tasted as good as it looked. There were dipped strawberries inspired by Oogie Boogie and The Queen of Hearts, Cruella de Vil pumpkin cupcakes, Dr. Faciier’s gingerbread and our favorite… salted, (poison) apple tarts made by the Evil Queen.

The tea was also delicious. I had the Eros.

All of the tables had themed flower arrangements, as well. There were four different options; The Evil Queen, Cruella, Ursula and Jafar.

After our meal, we made our way to the Parks. Downtown Disney is very festive and everyone should check out the Halloween decorations. I won’t say too much because it is worth seeing in person.

We cannot recommend this Afternoon Tea, enough. Reservations are offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons until Halloween. Like I mentioned, it can be hard to get a table but the best way is to call Disneyland Dining, directly at (714) 781-DINE or (714) 781-3463. I have not had success in trying to book tables for this, online. If you are staying at one of the Disneyland Hotels, ask the concierge to help you will all of your dining reservations, as they often are able to make accommodations for DLR guests.

Let us know if you are able to check it out and what your favorite treats were!
