FALL DAPPER DAY- 2017

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH, 2017

10:00 AM

We are about ready to head off! Packing everything into one suitcase and hoping it will all fit… I can’t wait to see what unique vendors they have this time!

3:00 PM

We just got back from Dapper Day Expo, and I am in love! So many unique vendors and small shops. I follow many of these shops on Instagram and Twitter, and have bought from many of them, so it was so nice to see the shop owners and creators in person. Companies like BB-CRE8, Just Peachy Place, Fan Flaire, and Cheery Human Studios have me completely smitten. I am writing this from our room at the Paradise Pier Hotel, and the view is amazing! We have a bird’s eye view of the lovely Paradise Pier, soon to be converted to Pixar Pier. For dinner tonight, we will be eating at Napa Rose, and I am so excited. Before that though, we will be experiencing the one-of-a-kind seminars presented by Dapper Day Expo.

5:15 PM

I’m writing this as the 1930s cosmetic history seminar wraps up. Narrated by the big boss of Besame Cosmetics, Gabriela Hernandez, she showed pictures and explained how all the celebrities and rich women did their makeup. It was so wonderful to learn how the ladies back then applied lipstick, or how they put blush on. The makeup powder wasn’t made for diverse skin tones, and often only had white or pink varieties. It’s hard to top a panel like this! Next panel- vintage food, drink, and entertaining!

6:30 PM

Ok, this seminar topped Besame, and that’s saying something. This panel explored vintage recipes, cocktails, and entertaining. Another present topic was how historical events in the 1920s, 50s, and 60s affected the food in those respective time frames. Michelle Ferrand of Cup of Zest swept us through times of prohibition, housewife standards post-WWII, and Julia Child’s french recipes. Towards the end of the seminar, Michelle did a live demonstration of how to make one of her favorite cocktails. Also, there was a raffle for some fabulous items, and everyone who showed up was automatically entered into the raffle. Although we didn’t win, it was still fun to see the different goodies that you hypothetically could.

7:20 PM

The BEST thing happened when my mom and I returned to our hotel room. The housekeeping left Ghirardelli chocolate squares and full-size chocolate dipped mickey rice krispy treats! So happy. We’re off to Napa Rose, and I will definitely be doing a journal on that!

9:15 PM

Our dinner at Napa Rose was fantastic. Even the bread bowl had an aura of fanciness. Appetizer wise, we got artichoke fritters with carrot hummus and pea puree (amazing!) and truffled orecchiette “mac ‘n cheese”. For our entrees, I got the seasonal pizza (mushroom+arugula) and my mom got the brisket “pot roast”. Dessert was a pumpkin creme brulee tart with cubed fresh pumpkin and crushed pepitas. Eating at Napa Rose on Dapper Day was a very unique experience, and I would do it again.

11:05 PM

I've had a great day and can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. Tune in for more travel journals!
