Spring Dapper Day '19
Spring Dapper Day ‘19 at the Disneyland Resort seemed to flash by us. As usual, we Dapperbounded. This time, we found inspiration in Big Thunder Ranch. May it RIP! In truth, we were protesting its replacement… Galaxy’s Edge, very close to the land’s scheduled open.
We were BIG fans of the now defunct Big Thunder Ranch (BTR). It was one of the parts of the Disneyland that we visited every time we went to the Park, whether to say “hi” to the goats, check out their seasonal celebrations, eat a delicious BBQ feast or just to escape the crowds. Needless to say, we weren’t happy when it was announced that it would be replaced by Galaxy’s Edge. If you listen to the podcast, you know just how resistant we have been to this change. We felt like it was high time to honor BTR and Dapper Day seemed like the perfect time.
For the first time, we wore vintage for Dapper Day. We were able to track down two incredible prairie revival dresses from the 1970’s. Both of our garments came from Etsy vendors. Ella’s dress fit her perfectly and did not need any adjustments upon delivery. Heidi’s dress was a bit plain so she decided to add some suede and lace trim around the neckline. She also replaced the plain buttons with some that were gold & embossed. It helped add a slight Victorian flair and made it feel more dapper. The dress was a big large in the waist, but once again, an elastic belt saved the day. It also had a nice gold detail that enhanced the look of the outfit.
One of our favorite things to do for Dapper Day is to design stylish, one-of-a-kind handbags. It has become a bit of a tradition and we had a lot of fun planning this addition. We were inspired by the classic BTR logo that could be found on signage throughout the entire ranch. This same logo can still be seen on a few lamp posts as you enter Galaxy’s Edge, closest to Frontierland.
We purchased 2, faux leather purses from Amazon. Heidi recreated the heat transfer logo with her Cameo Silhouette machine. The material was a metallic gold and it was quite reflective after it was applied, so she used a emery board to scuff it and make it look more worn. The purse came with 2 tassels that needed a little elevating, so she used some gold cord to wrap around them. We very pleased with the end product.
We finished our outfits with ranch boots, brown fascinators, petticoats, lace gloves and fringe-adorned parasols. We LOVED our looks!
We spent some time exploring the Dapper Day Expo at the Disneyland Hotel. We actually did most of our shopping the day before the park stroll. We have learned that it is better to get there when the Expo first opens and to not hesitate on purchasing items because the crowds are BIG and everything seems to sell fast. The added bonus of shopping the day before is that you do not have to schlep around a bunch of bags when you are all gussied up.
If you are ever thinking about going to any of the Dapper Days either at the Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World or Disneyland Paris, be sure to check out the special room rates that are available. They are incredible and you will thank us! For details on these deals, go to http://dapperday.com/
It was another great Dapper Day weekend. We love this event and it is fun to see it grow, year after year.
